Drupal 7 migration

Drupal 7 has had no security releases since 5 January 2025. We move your content, users and URLs to a supported platform, for one fixed price.

Why move now

Drupal 7 reached end of life on 5 January 2025. Your site still runs, but security problems found since then are not fixed by the Drupal project, and hosting providers are dropping the old PHP versions it depends on. Many Drupal 7 sites are also slow on phones and hard to edit.

Where to go

  • Drupal 11 for sites with many content types, editors, roles, multilingual content or integrations.
  • WordPress for brochure sites, blogs and small business sites where editing should be simple.

We recommend one in the quote and explain why. If you already know which you want, we start from that.

How a migration runs

  1. Inventory. Content types, fields, taxonomies, users, files, views, custom modules, URLs and integrations. Nothing on your live site is changed.
  2. Fixed price and plan. One price for a written scope, with what is migrated, what is rebuilt and what is retired.
  3. Build the new site. A clean install on current versions, with your design rebuilt as a modern, mobile-first theme.
  4. Migrate content. Repeatable scripted migrations, so the final run picks up anything your editors add in the meantime.
  5. Redirects. Every old URL mapped to its new address.
  6. Test and launch. Editors try it on staging, then we switch over with a backup and a rollback plan.

Included

Questions we are asked

Is Drupal 7 still safe to run?

Drupal 7 reached end of life on 5 January 2025. Security problems found since then are not fixed by the Drupal project, so the risk grows every month the site stays on it.

Should I move to Drupal 11 or WordPress?

Drupal 11 suits sites with complex content types, many editors, permissions or integrations. WordPress suits simpler brochure and blog sites. We recommend one in the quote, with the reason.

Will I lose my content or Google rankings?

Content, files and users are migrated, and every old URL either keeps working or is redirected to its new address, so search engines and bookmarks follow it.

Why is it a migration and not an upgrade?

Drupal 8 and later were rewritten from the ground up. Content moves across with Drupal's migration tools, but the theme and custom code have to be rebuilt for the new platform.

How long does it take?

Usually a few weeks, depending on the number of content types, custom modules and the design. The timescale comes with the fixed price.
